Small Town Secrets

Small Town Secrets is an investigative series co-produced by Shira Stoll and Ryan Kath. The series seeks to expose local town corruption and holds Massachusetts institutions accountable. These are three examples of those stories:

A Brockton couple was sitting at a stoplight late at night with their baby boy in the backseat when an SUV suddenly smashed into them. Behind the wheel of the vehicle that hit them? An off-duty Brockton police sergeant.

After getting a tip, the NBC10 Investigators looked into the conditions at the aging fire stations in Melrose. Emails obtained via a public records request revealed no shortage of problems, including no heat in the winter, rodents, water leaks and raw sewage.

After a years-long investigation, Boxborough Police Chief Warren Ryder resigned from his post in exchange for a six-figure settlement with the town. Following that development, the former top cop spoke publicly for the first time about being under the cloud of an FBI investigation that divided the community.
